Known as “Mr. Computer of SAC” (the Strategic Air Command), George W. Thorpe
retired as Deputy Director of Intelligence with the U.S. Air Force and transferred his computer
skills to the business world as chief of corporate planning for Southern Railway in Atlanta. During
this time, he conceived the idea of a specialized data processing system. In 1967, Thorpe resigned
his position at Southern Railway. With the help of 10 investors – each putting in $50,000 – he
formed Atlanta-based National Data Corporation.
Paul R. Garcia was named Chairman of the Board and CEO of NDC eCommerce.
A graduate of Kentucky Military Institute, Paul Garcia is still considered a pioneer and leader in
the financial and payments services industry. In the 2000s he was named one of the best CEOs in
America by Institutional Investor for four years in a row.
The company added over one half million card members to its VIP Preferred® Card program.
Global Payments continued to be a leader in the specialized field of Gaming. The company expanded
its base of customers by increasing the speed, flexibility and information management capabilities
of its products.
Global Payments acquired MUZO, a Czech Republic processing company.
The acquisition of MUZO (now Global Payments Europe) gave Global Payments the leadership role in the
Czech market for credit and debit card processing as well as a state-of-the-art platform for
expanding its reach into the European payments market.
GPN formed a joint venture and marketing alliance in Asia Pacific with HSBC to provide payment
processing services (now Global Payments Asia Pacific).

We acquired Auctionpay which provided technology solutions for nonprofit organizations (now Greater
Portland-based Auctionpay was founded in 2002 and provided software and payment processing services
for nonprofit fund raising events and philanthropic giving. The acquisition further supported Global
Payments mission of helping nonprofits raise more money for their respective causes.
We formed HSBC Merchant Services through the purchase of the remaining 49% of the joint venture in
the United Kingdom with HSBC Bank plc.
The joint venture provided payment processing services to merchants in the UK and internet merchants
globally. In addition, HSBC extended the current ten-year exclusive marketing alliance agreement
providing referrals and bank sponsorships.
Global Payments became the first foreign payment card processor to launch China UnionPay acquiring
services in Beijing, China.
The new service was offered to merchants in partnership with Global Payments' bank partner, HSBC.
With Beijing as the first city in which merchants would be able to take advantage of the new
service, the partnership was planned to pursue an expansion of the offering in other parts of China
in the future.
Our Global Service Center opened in Manila, Philippines to serve customers worldwide.
Global Payments established a multimillion dollar, state-of-the-art center in Mandaluyong City to
provide 24/7 customer service. The office was officially inaugurated by President Benigno Aquino who
welcomed the company’s investment as it aligned with his administration’s policy of job generation
and would help “enable the people to cast off the shackles of poverty.”
Jeffrey S. Sloan was appointed CEO of Global Payments Inc.
Prior to joining Global Payments in 2010, Jeff Sloan spent 12 years at Goldman, Sachs & Co., serving
as a partner for six years with responsibility for developing the firm's worldwide payments practice
in investment banking.
The acquisitions of PayPros and Accelerated Payment Technologies (APT) formed the integrated
solutions division of Global Payments which is now branded as OpenEdge. This division drives
innovation through the integration of advanced payments technology, adding value to software
applications and resulting in better solutions for enterprise software providers, developers and

The FinAppsParty hosted talented developers, designers, programmers and creators of mobile payments
apps. Judges chose the three best innovative payments applications that bridged the gap between
functionality and originality in graphic image, browsing and usability for consumers and
GPN acquired Realex Payments, one of Europe's largest and fastest growing payment gateways providing
a range of technology services for businesses selling online. The transaction furthered Global
Payments' strategy to provide omnichannel solutions that combine gateway services, payment service
provisioning and merchant acquiring across Europe.

GPN and CaixaBank finalized a joint venture with Erste Group in Central and Eastern
CaixaBank, Spain's largest bank by market share, announced the completion of the formation of a
joint venture with Erste Group Bank AG (Erste Group), a leading financial services provider in
Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), to provide merchant acquiring and payment services in the Czech
Republic, Slovakia and Romania. This built upon the strategic partnership established with Erste
Bank in Hungary in 2014.
Global Payments completed the merger with Heartland Payment Systems, creating the leading global
provider of integrated payment technology and further accelerating the trend.
